This tutorial demonstrates the use of
Feedpad-QA farm maps to display paddocks, stock tallies, feed
cover assessments and stock locations.
The files used in this tutorial
are distributed with Feedpad QA
software and are located in the install directory.
1) Paddocks database. Examine the
contents of the paddock database. by clicking on the
Main Paddock database button in the
Feedpad opening screen. The paddock data in the database is
accessed from within the mapping module to display feed covers.
After inspecting the contents of the paddocks database click
"OK
"
and return to the main screen.
2) Stock file. Examine the contents
of the example stock file "Bull farm.tly". To open the file click
on the Main menu button in the Feedpad opening
screen, then double click on the Stock tally icon
and open the file "Bull farm.tly". The mobs and
their locations are accessed when displaying stock locations in
the mapping module. Notice at the top of the stock tally file
there is a dropdown box containing all the paddocks present in the
paddocks database. The mob location can be changed using this
selection method (see section on stock tally files).
3) Aerial image. From the Feedpad
screen click on the Main menu button, double
click on the Map Image
icon and open the aerial
image named "ExampleAerialPhoto.jpg".
4) Drawing file. Using the menu
File>Open drawing, open the drawing file named
"ExampleDrawing1.mpp". Using the buttons in the toolbar shown
below switch to the drawing view then click on the
Show labels button to display the paddock names
and areas in hectares. Click the labels button again to hide
the labels then return to the Image
view
.

5) Display feed covers and stock
locations. View the feed cover levels and stock locations
in the map drawing by selecting the menu Plan>Show stock
locations. You will be prompted to see if you wish to overlay with
feed cover display. Click the "Yes" button. The file box opens then
select the stock file named Bull farm.tly.
6) Map display.
The resulting screen display is in drawing view
giving a colour-coded overlay of feed cover. In text in each paddock is the
feed cover in kg DM/ha and the name and number of the stock(see
example displayed below).
